Fancy trips aren’t always needed to bring everyone together and to have fun. Sometimes a staycation is in order. And some of the best memories with our family are made while on a staycation….besides you don’t even have to go to the trouble of packing a suitcase, which can be a huge win in my book.

The girls were out of school for parent/teacher conferences, so Scott and I both took the day off from work and took a little road trip to Tulsa, OK to The Gathering Place. It’s only about an hour and a half drive from OKC.

We all had the best time! The Gathering Place is a Riverfront Park with more than 100 experiences, and it’s great for kids of all ages. The architecture is amazing. It’s such a beautiful park and there is no charge for entry. I still cannot believe that there is so much to do and it’s all FREE!

Adventure Playground

We love the 5 acre adventure playground. It includes a 3 story wooden castle connected by netted bridges that you could spend hours on, a zipline, and Swing Park where you will find a variety of different types of swings (among so many other things). There is also a pond where you can take kayaks, canoes or paddleboats. I highly recommend spending a day here. There is so much to learn and explore.

We haven’t eaten any meals at the restaurants onsite, but we do always stop in for a snack at Redbud Café. They have ice cream, coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and other snacks. Next time we visit The Gathering Place, I would love to try the restaurant, Vista at the Boathouse. With floor to ceiling glass walls, I’m sure the views are amazing.

I highly recommend visiting The Gathering Place the next time you are near Tulsa, OK. It’s a beautiful park with tons of activities.

Here are some restaurants that we like in Tulsa:
Andolini’s Pizzeria (The garlic knots are a must! And if you sign up on their website to get their emails, you will get a free order!)
Dilly Diner
Oklahoma Joe’s for barbeque
